L to R, Johnny Hamilton, Dr. Jim Thames (with branding iron) Roland Hamilton, Willy Penton, and young Rufus Thames.

These cattlemen are preparing for branding their free-range cattle in the early 1940s. Since the cattle could roam free, it was necessary to install cattle guards to prevent them from coming into areas where they were not wanted. The entrance to the Floridatown Hotel had such a cattle guard.
